One store that I have found Gluten-Free food at on a hit-and-miss basis is Stupid Prices. Most of the time, the GF food that is sold there are the expensive mixes for 50% off - give or take. I would much rather buy a mix from a company I've never heard of (like I did a couple of months ago) with a price tag around $3 than the exact same mix at a "regular" store for $6-10. I ALWAYS CHECK for GF food at every store I visit. I don't check every time I am there, but I do my best to check frequently. Stores are constantly changing their inventory - so check each time you're there (or as often as you can). A lot of stores (like Whole Foods and Fred Meyer) will sell you a case of a product (like a case of Amy's Kitchen GF Mac & Cheese) and give you the case/bulk discount. The discounts on a lot of products add up fast! Before buying bulk, do your homework to make sure that the bulk deal is the best deal around. Just like shopping for gluten counterparts - know what's a good deal and shop accordingly. If you find a good deal, please let me know. I love a good deal on GF food! I have found GF food at:
Whole Foods (lots of GF foods - their own label, as well as others; also has own frozen bread products which, though expensive, are great especially for last minute or when traveling)
IGA (Canadian stores and a lot of stores in U.S. carry at least some GF foods - most are in natural food area, but others can be with gluten counterparts)
Trader Joe's (lots of GF food - they have their own label for GF products and a lot of 'name brand' foods are a better deal here)
Marlene's Markets (WA based store - lots of GF food to choose from, sometimes the deli has GF food, too)
Fred Meyer's (most in my area have GF section in Natural Foods area)
Safeway (look in natural foods area)
Wal-Mart (a lot of their own label products have "Gluten Free" on labels, have also found GF mixes next to their gluten counterparts)
Top Foods (a couple of items)
Cash 'n Carry (sells bean threads and Pad Thai noodles for a great deal in my area - like under $1 each!)
Asian Markets (there is one by me that I shop at often - lots of noodles to choose from, tons of flours, rice, beans, and soy sauce (without gluten - but must read lots of labels)
Stupid Prices (the occasional item - baking mixes, cereal, and soup mixes)
Dollar Store (the occasional item - cereal sometimes; have found soy sauce and Teriyaki sauce lately which is really good)
Dollar Tree (the occasional item - cereal usually)
Tacoma Boys (WA based store - has GF items all over their three stores - so have fun looking around - I always do)
I would love to hear what stores others have found GF food at so please share! To your health on the GF path of life...
